Larry Rudolph talking to MTV about Britney/FTR/Circus video premiere
Posted on 22 Nov 2008 by Joni | 0 Comments

Britney Spears' longtime manager Larry Rudolph has been by his client's side as she stages her comeback with the release of Circus and her documentary,
"For the Record" (premiering on MTV November 30)."I was very involved in putting [the film] together, so I saw the process," Rudolph told MTV News on Thursday night at a media preview of the film in Los Angeles. "It was a very interesting process. We made a deal from the very beginning — everybody sort of shook hands with the understanding that there were going to be no boundaries on this thing. We were going to make an open and honest film and that we weren't going to leave the good stuff on the cutting room floor.
"We went there with it," he added. "You see Britney in a light you're not used to seeing her in. She's intelligent, she's introspective, she's honest. By the end of the film you really understand who she is in a way that you just never imagined. ... It is so not a puff piece."
Rudolph, who is credited with shaping Britney's early career, wouldn't speak about how he and Spears reunited after a falling-out in 2007. At the time, many speculated that she fired him for encouraging her to enter rehab.
Focusing the conversation on the doc, Rudolph insisted that it shows everyone what he already knows about the singer: "She's got a unique set of talents. She's got a blend of certain talents. She's a great singer. She's a great dancer. She's got an amazing image. She's incredibly likable," he listed. "She's got this intangible thing that makes her a star."
"For the Record" is part of the game plan for reintroducing Britney, the pop star rather than the tabloid magnet, back to her fans, Rudolph said. The movie makes a case for Spears' future, by giving the audience "a good taste of the music and where she is and where she is going."
The next step in Brit's comeback is a video for the album's second single, "Circus," shot by "I'm a Slave 4 U" director Francis Lawrence, set to debut around the release of the album on December 2. "It is amazing," Rudolph said. "The video is extraordinary. It is really, really good."
Although Blackout came out only a year ago, Rudolph said that this was an organically right time for her to put out new music again. "It wasn't that there was a rush," he explained. "The album got completed on its natural timetable. And it just was the right time to put it out. So we decided to put it out on her birthday and make it a birthday present to her and to the world."
First look: MTV's 'Britney: For The Record'
Posted on 21 Nov 2008 by Joni | 0 Comments

I just attended an exclusive screening of the first 33 minutes of the hotly anticipated upcoming MTV documentary, Britney: For the Record, premiering on Nov. 30 at 10 p.m. Shot over three months following her performance at this year's VMAs, the 90-minute film offers a candid look inside Britney Spears' personal and professional life. Among other highlights, you'll see the remarkably isolated entertainer at home eating cheese grits (cooked by her dad) on the morning of the VMAs; getting stalked by paparazzi; shooting the video for "Womanizer;" meeting with her management team and record label about her new CD, Circus (out Dec. 2); dissing Katie Holmes' style while shopping in New York; talking about how she envies Jessica Alba for being able to go grocery shopping with her baby without getting mobbed by photographers; and insisting that she's not a victim of her success while admitting that she often feels like a prisoner. Here are a few juicy soundbites.
On Justin Timberlake and Kevin Federline (whom she refers to as "my babies' daddy"):
"With Justin, he was a part of the magnitude of what I had become. So when he was gone I was like, What am I supposed to do with myself? I was devastated [by the breakup] but I handled it a lot better than the [split] with Kevin....He started to do an album for himself and he started to do things for himself, and I just never saw him anymore....When it ended I felt so alone. I didn't really wanna think about the reality of it. I never faced it....I just ran."
On recovering from her 2007 meltdown:
"My trust has really been battered....Sometimes it can get kinda lonely....I had totally lost my way. I lost focus. I lost myself. I let certain people into my life that were just bad people...because I was lonely....I really paid the consequences for that. Big time....What the hell was I thinking?"
On fame:
"At first, it's amazing, the first year or two, because it's like, I'm a celebrity!....It didn't really touch me until I had been working for six years....I wanted to just stop. I wanted to create a new life."
On the current state of her life:
"Do I know my life is weird? It's all I've ever known. I don't see it as being weird....I'm kind of stuck in this place and I'm like, How do you deal? I just cope with it every day....It's better not to feel anything at all and have hope than to feel the other way....It's bad. I'm sad." She breaks down into tears. Later, she complains that her life is too in control these days: "It's like Groundhog Day every day. It's really boring....Normal is really different for everybody....In my situation, I try to make it as normal as possible for me....It could be a lot worse. There are people out there who have it a lot worse than I do....I used to be a cool chick but I feel like the paparazzi has taken that away from me, like, the way I used to live my life. I used to be a cool chick but I'm not anymore."

Aguleria lines up Goldfrapp and Sia for 4th album
Posted on 17 Nov 2008 by Joni | 0 Comments

Christina Aguilera has lined up a raft of established electro acts to collaborate with on her upcoming fourth album.
The singer is rumoured to have sought out the talents of British acts Goldfrapp and Ladytron to work on the follow-up to 2006's Back To Basics.
Aguilera has already confirmed that Zero 7 singer Sia will be working on the new record, telling Billboard: "I'm definitely a fan of Sia's. I was thrilled she also wanted to work together and, in turn, was a fan of mine."
She said the pair plan to record together in January, but are "setting the wheels in motion now... I'm not exactly sure what we're gonna get when we get in the studio together, but as with all great things I'll go in and there's probably magic to be had".
Aguilera's greatest hits package Keeps Gettin' Better is out now.
Top of the Pops to return – as public service TV
Posted on 17 Nov 2008 by Joni | 0 Comments

It started with the Rolling Stones, ended with Shakira – and music fans thought that it would never return in the era of YouTube and the MP3 player.
But after heavy lobbying from artists, managers and record companies, Top of the Pops is expected to return to BBC television in the next year amid claims that there is not enough popular music on television.
Music executives are increasingly confident that the BBC is ready to bring back a show that was last broadcast on BBC Two in July 2006, although to win back the viewers it will need to change, with songs being featured before they are released.
Expect a return of miming – which was banned in the chart show’s latter years, upsetting some pop acts – and an end to the “three-minute rule”, which forced rock bands to play edited versions of their hits.
“There is only one chance for a comeback, and the programme will fail again if it returns exactly as before,” one music industry insider said. “It needs to be more populist and have exclusive content, new songs, that can be put up on YouTube and shared around the internet.”
Top of the Pops was axed after its ratings – which had been 15 million in its 1970s heyday – fell to close to a million.
The revival of the show has been discussed ever since.

Zac Efron: "I love to surf!"
Posted on 16 Nov 2008 by Joni | 0 Comments

Melbourne, Nov 13 (ANI): Hollywood actor Zac Efron, who has made waves around the world with his High School Musical act, revealed he is a big fan of surfing.
“I love to surf every chance I get. Oh man, I would love to go surfing with Kelly Slater at Bells Beach, Herald Sun quoted Efron, as saying.
Efron said he would even consider pursuing a career in marine life.
He deferred his place at the University of Southern California when he hit the big time with the first HSM in 2006.
He was accepted into a film major, but said if he ever did take up his spot, he would switch to marine biology.
“Then I”d be in the ocean all the time, he said. (ANI)
