Despite her train-wreck performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last year, the network confirms Spears will kick off the show once again.
But it won’t be a performance. Instead, MTV Networks Music Group President Van Toffler said Wednesday, it’ll be something “fun and unexpected” on Sunday night’s show.
Unexpected is probably the kindest way to describe Spears’ performance at last year’s VMAs. In what was heavily promoted as the troubled singer’s comeback, she instead gave an unfocused, almost unwatchable performance of “Gimme More,” one of the many lowpoints in her year of debacles.
So what made Spears and MTV reunite one more time?
“MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs? I’m excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated,” Spears said in a statement.
“I think for Britney, people are rooting for her, and she’s really on the road to recovery,” Toffler said, noting that MTV had nominated her for three VMAs, including video of the year, for her clip “Piece of Me.”
“It feels like it’s her year,” he added. “It’s our 25th anniversary of the VMAs, and she’s been such a critical piece of MTV’s history.”
Spears also equals ratings gold: Last year’s VMAs were up 23 percent over the 2006 show.
In recent months, Spears, who’s working on a new album, has appeared to have cleaned up her act. Her father James has been in control of her personal and professional matters as her legal conservator, and she drew high ratings and positive reviews when she made guest appearances on CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother” earlier this year.
The debut album from Keri Hilson, In a Perfect World…, has been pushed back by one week to October 14th. It had originally been scheduled for September 23rd and then moved to October 7th. If the new date sticks, Keri will be going up against Ludacris’ Theater of the Mind.
She became a mother a few months ago but despite that, Jennifer Lopez is also investing some time in her music career again. She is almost 10 years active in the music industry. To celebrate this she will release a Greatest Hits album which will include, besides her smash hits, new songs she is currently recording!
Jennifer released her latest album ‘Brave‘ in October 2007 and earlier that year she released her first ever Spanish language album ‘Como Ama Una Mujer‘. The Latina superstar hopes her upcoming Greatest Hits album will hit stores in October this year, reports Notimex.
The new material for the album will be produced by Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, Cory Rooney and The Matrix.
On the album the singer will resume to her musical style, but she will add rhythms and a danceable style to her remarkable funky, hip hop, r&b and dancy sound, so it will be different from her previous music productions.
In addition, the actress and singer is also working on her comeback on the bigscreen. She will star in Love And Other Impossible Pursuits, which is slated to premiere in 2009, and in The Governess.
In 2002, Miss Lopez released a remix album featuring hot remixes of her hit singles called ‘J To Tha L-O! the remixes‘. The album includes 15 remixes of her smash hits like: Love Don’t Cost A Thing, Play, I’m Real, Ain’t It Funny, If You Had My Love and Waiting For Tonight.
I'm so excited, finally some hot new tracks by JLO!

(Aug. 21) - Jessica Simpson often cites legends like Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton as her musical heroes. But who among the newer country artists really impresses her these days? The Boot got a rather surprising answer when they posed that question to the pop turned country star.
"I think it's impressive how many No. 1s Carrie Underwood has," Simpson said, with a nervous laugh. "Her choice in songs is really great, and she has an incredible voice. As far as new people, she has one of the strongest voices out there."
So what about this supposed rivalry between the two songbirds?
"It's definitely media driven. People are just trying to make a story out of nothing," Simpson insists. "I respect her and hopefully she respects me. We've just dated the same guy -- that's it!"
That guy is Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who was briefly linked to Underwood last year. Romo is now in a serious relationship with Simpson. But Underwood recently told Allure magazine that he still calls her.
"I don't understand why she would say that," Simpson recently told a San Francisco radio station. "I respect Carrie, and I would never say anything like that."
With all the time she's spending in Nashville these days, Simpson and Underwood are bound to run into each other. So would Simpson walk up to her media-deemed nemesis and give her a hug?
"Um ... I would definitely stop and say, 'Hi,'" Simpson answered.
Simpson is hoping to take the spotlight away from the tabloid nonsense and focus it back on the music with her new country CD, 'Do You Know,' which is due September 9. The Boot talked to her about her favorite songs on the album, including the very sexy title track, written by Dolly Parton. We'll have more on our exclusive interview with Jessica Simpson next week.

MTV.co.uk - Pussycat Dolls are returning to the music scene with a second album Doll Domination after taking a break while leader Nicole Scherzinger worked on her solo career. In the break she also met her boyfriend Lewis Hamilton at the MTV Europe Music Awards. MTV News caught up with Nicole to talk about the girls new album and her romantic life.
MTV: Hi Nicole- Is it good to be back with Pussycat Dolls? It feels so good- on the plane over here I was excited because it’s been so long since we’ve been over in the UK and Europe. We feel really strongly about the album.
Why did you decide to stop working on your solo career? For me it was what I wanted to do. I’m a relentless perfectionist and I realised that a lot of the songs from my record should be Pussycat Dolls songs including (single) When I Grow Up. Next year I want to put out my solo album and I think the two will be able to co-exist nicely together.
How different is this album from your first with PCD? Our old PCD fans will love it but hopefully we’ll get some new ones too. We worked with Rodney Jerkins, Cee-Lo and Timbaland. Having a break from the Dolls album I thought I could bring different styles. We always want to keep people guessing. This album has a lot of heart and soul and songs that hopefully can connect with fans on a more personal and vulnerable level.
Does that mean there are more ballads? There are definitely still the club-dance songs but also some ballads and more alt pop-rock songs. There are songs that people can relate to when they are going through a hard time in a relationship. Overall I think that this album says a lot! But then we also have a fun song called Take Over The World.
Which producers did you work with? Rodney Jerkins worked on it and Timbaland exec produced the whole album. He had his own visions of what he wanted for the group. We have dance club soms and some 60s or 70s joints that Tim brought out of us.
Cee Lo did a song called Love Gun with a 60s/70s vibe too. When I sing that song I was honing it to an old Tina Turner or Aretha type vocal. Cee Lo is such a good friend of mine and our new song is not what you would expect.
Tell us about your single When I Grow Up? Rock City wrote the song with us in mind. I love the sound- it’s really raw and really funky. It was good coming out with a song that people could dance to and that has an attack to it! The lyrics play with what it is like to be famous.
What is it like to be famous? It has its ups and downs. It’s not as glamourous as people think. People don’t see the work that goes in to touring but its definitely worth it. It’s not party all the time like people think- sometimes when I get the chance I am too tired to party!
What about tabloid intrusion? It’s interesting- I think my personal life is different, I want to be known for my music.
There was a story recently about you dating Will.I.Am? That is the funniest thing because Will is like my brother and I don’t know when the last time I had seen him was. He has been on tour.
What do you look for in men? I look for someone with a good heart. Someone who is confident and successful and goes after what he wants. I love a guy with a great sense of humour.
When I Grow Up is out September 8. Doll Domination is out September 22 (in the UK)
